Looking for wallpaper ideas for your next room makeover?
I’ll be honest, when I first started, I wasn’t working with designers. My focus was always on building it right, above minimum code, and making it last. But as we took on more projects and I started working with some incredible designers, I saw just how much thought and detail goes into finishing a space. They’d pick things I wouldn’t have considered. One design trend that has become very popular is incorporating wallpaper — whether it’s bold, unique patterns or textures. While I was unsure at first, when it all came together for the reveal, the space looked sleek, fresh, and beautiful. That’s when I really started to appreciate how the right wallpaper ideas can completely transform a room.
Let me tell you, it’s not the wallpaper your grandparents had. Peel-and-stick options have made it easier than ever to install and remove wallpaper, so homeowners don’t have to commit forever. For our projects, we hire the pros, like Katie’s Wallpaper, to do it because a bad install can ruin the whole look, but the results speak for themselves.
We’ve used it in bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchens, and even play nooks. Here are 15 wallpaper ideas for your room makeover from our Holmes projects that I think made all the difference.
1. A Custom Walnut Bar with a Bold Floral Wallpaper
When we built this custom walnut bar, it was all about the craftsmanship. The cabinetry was stunning, but something was missing. The designer suggested we add a dark floral wallpaper to the back panel.
At first, I wasn’t sure about it, but once it was up, the whole space came together. The floral wallpaper gave the rich walnut a new depth and contrast, making it look like it belonged in a high-end home. It’s a great example of how a little detail can make all the difference.
This wallpaper added depth and made the rich walnut wood stand out.
2. A Tie-Dye Laundry Room That Feels Twice as Big
Laundry rooms are usually the last place anyone wants to spend time. They’re cramped, boring, and often the last thing on your mind when renovating. But this one? We turned it around.
The designer went bold with a tie-dye-striped wallpaper on both the walls and ceiling. It opened up the space and gave it a light, airy feel, making the laundry room somewhere the homeowners actually enjoy spending time.

3. A Nature-Inspired Bathroom That Feels Like a Spa
This bathroom had oak cabinetry and grey tile, but it needed something to tie it all together. We used a light grey wallpaper with oversized leaf patterns, bringing in a natural, calming feel. It’s like a spa retreat at home.

4. A Hidden Play Nook Under the Stairs
Now, this one was fun. Under-the-stairs spaces often get overlooked, but not in this case. We carved out a secret play nook under the stairs, creating a cozy spot for the kids to read and play.
To make it even more magical, we used wallpaper with illustrations of kids on bikes, dogs playing, and palm trees. It’s a small detail, but it adds so much personality and charm to a space that might otherwise feel neglected.
5. A Home Gym That Looks Like It’s Built from Stone
We wanted a real stone finish in this gym, but the price and logistics? Not worth it. Instead, the designer found a high-quality stone-look wallpaper—and you’d swear it’s the real deal. It added texture and depth without the heavy cost (or heavy lifting).
6. A Neutral Living Space with a Bold Statement Wall
Neutral colours can be beautiful, but they can also feel a little bland if you’re not careful. The homeowners loved neutral tones, but we needed something to give the space a bit more personality. The designer chose a beige-and-green floral wallpaper for the wall behind the emerald green cabinetry, and it added just the right amount of interest to the room without overwhelming it.
7. A Powder Room That’s Fun & Playful
Powder rooms are small, but that’s why they’re perfect for bold design choices. The designer picked a pink floral wallpaper that covered the walls and ceiling, making the space feel vibrant, fresh, and sleek.
It just goes to show that you don’t need a big space to make a big impact.

8. A Basement Apartment with a Splash of Art
Basements tend to be cold and uninviting, but we turned this one into a bright, welcoming space. The kitchen cabinetry was kept white, and we added an abstract wallpaper with bold blue strokes on one wall. The wallpaper gave the room the perfect pop of colour.
It was just what this basement needed to feel like a real living space, not just a leftover part of the house, especially with the homeowner’s mom planning to live there.
9. Two Bedrooms, Two Tropical Getaways
For this basement reno, we went with a tropical theme in both bedrooms. One room featured seashell wallpaper, and the other had tropical plants. It gave the space a vacation feel and made it feel like a resort getaway.
10. A Feminine Touch for a Basement Suite
The homeowner’s daughter wanted her own space with a soft, feminine vibe. We gave her pink walls and added a pink floral wallpaper with deep green-grey leaves. It’s cozy, stylish, and exactly what she wanted.
11. A Koala-Themed Kids’ Room
When a little girl asked for a koala-themed room, we made it happen. We found a wallpaper with white tree silhouettes and koalas climbing up the trunks, wrapping it around the entire room—including the built-in cabinetry.
It turned out to be the perfect space for a young child, making her feel like she was living in a whimsical world that was entirely her own.
12. A Nursery with a Watercolor Wall
We wanted something soft and calming for this nursery, so we went with a watercolour-inspired wallpaper in white, green, and pink. It created the perfect peaceful atmosphere for a newborn and growing baby.
13. A Surprise Primary Bedroom Makeover
After the main renovations were done, we wanted to do something special for these homeowners, so we surprised them with a bedroom transformation. We used floral wallpaper to tie together their grey, green, and pink decor. It was the finishing touch that brought the whole room together.
14. A Bold Wallpaper That Made the Main Floor Look Bigger
To visually expand the space, the designer picked a tight-knit green-and-yellow bird-patterned wallpaper. At first, I wasn’t sure about it. But when the mint green kitchen cabinets, green dining chairs, and white oak floors all came together? It looked incredible.
15. A Construction Site-Inspired Room for a Young Fan
This one’s special. We worked on a room for a young boy named Mike, who just so happens to be one of my biggest fans. He loved everything about construction and wanted his room to feel like a real construction site. In fact, he never wanted anyone to renovate his home unless it was me.
To give him the room of his dreams, we used wallpaper that had a construction site theme with construction equipment. It was the perfect fit for a young guy who’s passionate about building things the right way, just like we do. It turned out to be a fun space that reflected his love of construction and made him feel like he was part of the team.
Would I have picked some of these wallpapers myself? Maybe not! But that’s the beauty of working with talented designers. They push the envelope, they take risks, and they make me see things differently.
And here’s what I’ve learned—wallpaper is one of the easiest ways to change a space. With peel & stick options, it’s become faster, easier, and way less of a commitment than before. Would you use any of these wallpaper ideas for your room makeover?
