A Special Holmes on Homes Episode

Michael has autism, and caring for him didn’t leave much time for this parents to upgrade their bungalow. When I met Michael, I was surprised to see how much he LOVED our Holmes shows. Let me tell you — he knows our shows inside and out. This was a special Holmes On Homes episode for us.

He was quoting me and knew all of our episodes. He was watching me and learning from what I do. HIs parents told me Mike Holmes comes up in conversations everyday in their house.

Michael lives with his parents, Janetta and Mike, in a cozy bungalow that had seen better days. Like so many families, their focus was on caring for each other, and that meant home repairs kept getting pushed aside. That’s where we stepped in. When I first went to his house, I didn’t tell him I was coming. His reaction was so cute.

The Superfan Joins The Holmes On Homes Crew

Of course we had to invite him to join our crew for the project. Watching him shine in construction, renovating his own house with me was really special. He took pride in what he was doing – loved seeing that. This is one of those times a renovation is more than just a renovation. We filmed this for Holmes On Homes: Building A Legacy.

We tore down the main floor to the studs, rebuilt it to be brighter, more open, and safer, and created a warm, welcoming kitchen and living space where the family can spend time together comfortably.

But what really made this project special was Michael himself. He didn’t just watch — he helped. We brought him onto the crew, gave him his own gear, and showed him what goes into making it right. His excitement, attention to detail, and pride in being part of the team reminded all of us why we do what we do.

Seeing Michael’s face during the reveal — that’s the kind of moment you never forget.
