With the heat we're experiencing right now, it's important to think about more than just staying comfortable—it's about staying safe and protecting your home.

Here are a few reminders during a heat wave:
- Stay hydrated and check in on older family members, neighbours, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.
- Keep blinds and curtains closed during the hottest part of the day to help reduce indoor temperatures.
- Change your HVAC filter regularly and don't block vents—your air conditioning system needs proper airflow to work efficiently.
- Avoid overloading electrical outlets with multiple fans or portable AC units.
- If you don't have air conditioning, use cooling centres or other air-conditioned public spaces if your home becomes too hot.

Extreme heat can put extra stress on your home and your body. A little preparation goes a long way.

Most homeowners don't think about their gutters until there's a problem. That's a mistake.

One of the biggest threats to your home's longevity is poor water management. If water isn't being directed away from your home properly, it can damage your foundation, landscaping, roof, fascia, and more.

In this clip from my Holmes on Homes podcast, we talk about:
✔️ Signs your gutter system may not be working properly
✔️ Why craftsmanship matters
✔️ How proper water management helps protect your home's foundation
✔️ The role gutter protection plays in preventing debris buildup

Don't wait until water starts showing up where it shouldn't.
