The Skilled Trades That Are In Demand

A significant number of skilled tradespeople are approaching retirement. This is creating a shortage and a need for new talent. The skilled trades shortage in Canada is affecting us all. That’s why Mike Holmes sat down with his daughter Sherry Holmes to discuss the skilled trades that are in demand.

In a recent episode of the Holmes on Homes Podcast, Mike Holmes delved into the current state of the skilled trades industry. He highlights both the most and least popular trades, as well as the challenges and opportunities they present.

Holmes emphasized that while trades like electrical work and plumbing are in high demand, often due to their essential nature in construction and home maintenance. Other trades such as carpentry and masonry are facing a decline in interest among younger generations. This shift is attributed to various factors. One of the main factors is the stigma that trades are less prestigious than academic careers and a lack of awareness about the rewarding aspects of these professions.

More than 222,000 new Red Seal journeypersons are needed over the next four years to meet demand in Canada.
