I always tell homeowners: protect your home from the outside in.
Check your roof, gutters and downspouts, siding, foundation, windows and doors. Look for cracks, loose materials, damaged caulking and anything that could let water, cold air or pests get inside.
And don’t forget the smaller jobs —draining exterior water lines, checking stairs and railings, cleaning up leaves and making sure your snow equipment is ready.
A little maintenance now can help prevent much bigger problems when the freezing temperatures, snow and ice arrive.
I’ve put together my complete fall exterior home maintenance checklist to help you get started.

Here is Mike Holmes' complete fall house exterior maintenance checklist. When gutters become clogged with leaves and debris, water can't flow where it's supposed to. Instead, it spills over the edge and ends up around your foundation, siding, landscaping, and potentially inside your home.
I've seen homeowners spend thousands of dollars repairing damage that started with something as simple as a clogged gutter.
That's why I always say: protect your home withLeafFilter Gutter ProtectionfFilter Gutter Protection before the leaves start falling.

The frustrating part? Many of them were preventable.
Too often, decks are treated like simple backyard projects when they're actually structural systems that carry significant loads and remain exposed to the elements year-round.
Poor flashing.
Improper fasteners.
Undersized footings.
Weak railing connections.
Water intrusion.
These are the kinds of issues that can turn a beautiful deck into a serious safety hazard.
Whether you're a homeowner, contractor, or inspector, deck safety should never be an afterthought.
Inspect it regularly. Maintain it properly. Fix issues before they become failures.
That's how you protect both your investment and th#constructiong#DeckSafetyt#HomeImprovemente#BuildingSafetym#contractorn#mikeholmesn#makeitrighteHolmes #makeitright
