HOLMES ON HOMES
Each week, construction and renovation expert Mike Holmes visits unlucky families who have been swindled or abandoned during their home improvement projects.
Mike uncovers shoddy construction methods, improper techniques, and down right rip-offs. While we watch Mike uncover and fix the problems, he explains how homeowners can safeguard themselves from these unscrupulous builders and dishonest contractors.
Throughout the series, viewers learn valuable lessons for their own home renovation projects such as the importance of a good contract, proper payment terms and what good craftsmanship should really look like.

Prevent Slips & Falls with Safer Deck Stairs | Make It Right®
It's important that homeowners check their deck's structure. Here are Mike Holmes's tips on how to prevent slips and falls with safer deck stairs
When I look at a basement, I always hope to find it unfinished because I want to be able to see the foundation walls. Even if the basement is finished, there is usually at least one place where I can see the foundation, and that is the utility (furnace) room.
#AskMike - Where is the best place to vent your bathroom fan?
Think about the damage moist air can cause in your home. If not vented properly, this humid air can get to the space between ceiling joists, and cause damage. Your bathroom exhaust fan should be connected to vent ducts that push the exhaust outside your home. This is required by most building codes.
