SOS Children’s Villages is now constructing prefab houses made of polypropylene on what was the soccer pitch at the Santo Village in Haiti.
Over 300 children need care and shelter after the 7.0 earthquake devastated Haiti. They are orphaned, or have become separated from their families and are now in the care of SOS mothers.

The second is that, since they aren't legal, they won't have permits, and won't be inspected. CANADA FOR HAITI RAISES $27 MILLION
Friday's one-hour, commercial-free special produced collaboratively between CBC Television, CTV and Global Television, has raised more than $13.5 million to date for relief efforts in Haiti, it was confirmed today. When the funds are matched by the federal government, the amount increases to more than $27 million. An additional $6.7 million was raised in Quebec in a French-language telethon that ran concurrently on Friday night, bringing the overall Canadian television total with federal contributions to more than $40 million.

EMERGENCY APPEAL FOR THE CHILDREN IN HAITI
SOS Children´s Villages staff members are already assessing the damage and supporting the emergency response.
They will provide basic medical supplies, drinking water and basic food supplies to the children and families living in the communities surrounding our SOS Children´s Villages and other facilities.
SOS will provide temporary shelter for children in the affected area and will support children who have lost their parents in the catastrophe.

Hi everyone,
I'm in Copenhagen, as a guest of Jim Prentice, the Minister of the Environment. The Minister invited me to come to COP15 as an Eminent Advisor to the Canadian Delegation--a pretty impressive title for a guy who still thinks of himself as 'just a contractor'. I'm not here to give any one advice, and I'm sure not here to do any negotiations--let's leave that for the experts.
I'm here to learn.
What I'd like to take away is as much information as I can get about my area of expertise--building--and how residential building impacts climate change. There's no question that a large amount of energy is wasted by how we live in our houses, energy we can save by building smarter, more efficiently, and more sustainably. If there is one thing I've learned in my career as a builder, there is always a better way to do things.
I'm going to do my best to discover some of those ways, and to share that information with you to help Make it Right.

Lien on Me wins HGTV Specialty Series Award
HGTV received a Gold Ribbon award for Best Specialty Entertainment Special for the 2 hour Lien on Me special. The award was presented by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters at the Gold Ribbon Awards Gala on Nov 3rd 2008. Mike Holmes Awarded Honorary Doctorate from BCIT
Mike, "Canada's Most Trusted Contractor" was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Technology from The British Columbia Institute of Technology on Thursday February 21st 2008.
