"I’ve always said your house should work for you. It should be built to make your everyday life easier, not harder. But when you have special needs a standard home doesn’t cut it. You might not be able to reach the kitchen cabinets, or get in and out of the bathtub easily, reach light switches, or even leave the house without help. These things can make you feel like a prisoner in your home.
Sometimes it’s not even about convenience — it’s a matter of life or death. What if you couldn’t hear the doorbell or smoke or carbon monoxide alarms? If you can’t hear them you might as well not have them. It’s a huge safety issue. But that’s the reality for more than a million people in Canada living with hearing issues — and that scares me. Can’t imagine how it feels for them."

Reader's Digest Canada names Mike the 2nd Most Trusted Canadian (again!)
We are proud to announce that Reader's Digest Canada recently named Mike the second most trusted Canadian! Mike has been in the top 3 most trusted Canadians for the last 4 years.
Reader's Digest commissioned an independent research poll Leger Marketing to survey a representative sample of 2,020 Canadian adults. Respondents were presented with a list containing the names of 25 prominent Canadians and asked to rate each according to trustworthiness. They were then asked to select which personality they trusted the most, which formed the list of 20 most-trusted Canadians.
Mike Holmes Launches Make It Right
The Holmes Group, in partnership with TC Media, is pleased to announce the release of a new limited-edition magazine, Make It Right, in honour of Mike Holmes’ ten years on television.
The publication is a balance between entertainment and education. It provides Mike Holmes fans with a retrospective and a behind-the-scenes look at the man behind the overalls, including personal details on how he went from local contractor to international celebrity.
Mike Holmes Make It Right is available for $9.99 and will be on newsstands across Canada and the United States on April 22, 2013.

New Episodes of Holmes Makes It Right Return on HGTV Canada - TONIGHT
All-new episodes of Holmes Makes It Right return TONIGHT - Tuesday April 16th at 9pm on HGTV Canada. In the first episode titled "Labour of Love" - Mike is called in to teach some valuable lessons in construction when a high school student passes away suddenly, and his shop teacher and classmates decide to help the family with some renovations as a school project.

But when it comes to finishing a basement the most important thing is to make sure it’s properly insulated. Otherwise, you’re just going to create the perfect environment for mould and mildew.
